Gallery Area: Temporary Displays Audio Tour
For the 100th Anniversary of the Olympic Games, the Olympic Committee organized a 1996 torch relay that covered a large portion of the United States. As a part of the relay to Atlanta, the torch was brought through Charles City.
Suspension Bridge Display
In 1905 it became evident that a footbridge was needed to connect the west side of town to the Fairgrounds and the Chautauqua events. It was completed in 1906. In 1989 it was placed on the Register of Historic Places. Sadly, in 2008 a record flood destroyed the bridge.
"It's a Doozy" - Brothers Fred and August Duesenberg lived in Rockford, Floyd County, Iowa as young men, getting their start in a bicycle shop on Main St.
"Nature's Fury"- Tornadoes have taken their toll in Floyd County over the years. Look through this exhibit and find out about our history with Mother Nature's violent side. Press the button to hear the local radio station when it came back on the air the evening after the tornado of May 15, 1968- 8:01pm. "Just for Kids": Make a tornado! Shake a bottle, turn it upside down, and look for a funnel.
Roland Endleman of Charles City, IA built these 1/3-scale working models of Hart Parr #1 and the Hart Parr Little Devil.
